Ashwini Vaishnaw is an Indian politician and former IAS officer of the Odisha cadre. He is the incumbent Union Minister of Railways, Communications, and Electronics and Information Technology of India.According to some sources, his familys residence was initially in Jeewand Kallan village of Rani in Pali district, Rajasthan. He also graduated with a gold medal from Jai Narayan Vyas University in 1992.A 1994-batch IAS officer, he cracked the UPSC examinations with an All-India Rank (AIR) of 27.While he was the collecter in Balasore, the state experienced a cyclone known to have killed thousands of people. Ashwini, as a collector, managed the situation efficiently, earning praises for his work. The National Human Rights Commission appreciated Ashwini for organising and executing relief and rehabilitation work in his district.While working in the Prime Ministers Office, he played a part in creating the public-private partnership framework in infrastructure projects.In 2008, still an IAS officer, he left for the United States to pursue an MBA. He returned to India in 2010 with huge debts from his education. Therefore, he took voluntary retirement to work at a private firm.In 2010, he started working at GE Transportation as managing director. He then joined the Locomotives & Head Urban Infrastructure Strategy department in Siemens (Gurgaon) as the vice president.Aswin was also one of the three directors in Thriveni Pellets Private Limited, a unit of Thriveni Earth Movers Private Limited, which is one of Indias largest mine developers.In 2012, he quit the corporate field to start his automotive components manufacturing units in Gujarat called Three Tee Auto Logistics Private Limited and Vee Gee Auto Components Private Limited. Talking about it in an interview, he said, I went to Gujarat and built my units while living in a container for 7 months as I wanted that factory to come out in record time..
